https://www.homeaway.co.uk/p409858 We stayed in this breathtaking house overlooking the Dordogne River in 2014. We are returning this September, 2017. The owner, Vincent is very easy to work with, and lives in Utah part of the year. The house is over 500 years old and once owned by a Knight. It has three terrace areas, all overlooking the river below, including one off one of the two Master bedrooms. There is also a grill on one of the terraces. Because the house is owned by an American, the kitchen is perfect for cooking. The two bathrooms, one for each of the two bedrooms have been completely renovated. The house also has a washer and dryer. Even though, it has been renovated, it still feels and looks like an ancient home right in the village. Vincent has a lady who will meet you at the apartment with instructions, and is available all the time, if you need anything.

I must warn you that the village of Beynac is very steep, and you will always tackle this issue when leaving or returning. Also, the house is on three levels. There is a small grotto, which you will see in the photo's, which is perfect for a small car, and right across from the cottage. The narrow road leading to the grotto is steep and I think a bit harrowing, although my husband enjoys the challenge. Backing out of the grotto is also an adventure, but the tourists wandering through town, seem to enjoy watching that particular challenge. There is plenty of parking in the lots below the town if you choose not to use the grotto, or your car is too big. One of the other good things about the house, is that you are half way up to the Castle!!!!

We had no issues with the house, and can't wait to return.

I would like to add that Vincent has now added a swimming pool. The property is truly stunning.

Hi Sharon. I should have said that my "aloha" included you as well as Cameron. "Our" place in La-Roque-Gageac is no longer a rental so we may have to try Beynac. But this spring we're returning to Sablet for the fifth time, staying here as always -- http://www.houseinprovence.net/. We love northern Provence just about as much as we do the Perigord!

Hi Ann, Good hearing from you. Which of those rentals do you stay in? Stairs are becoming an issue for me in many of these homes. Also, would like some parking nearby if possible.

Hi Sharon. We stay in the 3 BR/ 2 1/2 bath. The master BR is up a short flight of stairs, and there really isn't any nearby parking. Sablet is a small walled village, and "our" house is at the top. http://www.houseinprovence.net/Page_2_12WQ.html.
Here's a place that would definitely work for you, in a wonderful town with a superb market and great restaurants: https://www.vrbo.com/317480. Roz's review: https://www.sloweurope.com/communit...son-la-romaine-townhouse-in-village-2-br.737/
We had a terrific 9-day stay in Montepulciano in October, followed by a couple of weeks in Rome. We should have reversed it!
Aloha, Ann

Thanks Ann, Looks wonderful. Checking on a few things like parking and unloading groceries and luggage, etc. We can only visit in late Fall, because of Hurricane Season here in Beaufort, SC. Got caught in France a few years ago, and had to hurry home, to pick up our dogs from the kennel, and shutter our house, before driving to our daughter's in Dallas. Truly, a nightmare. Late October may work, however!!!

Ah, I love this area of the Dordogne. With the angle of the paths and roads, it is not for the faint hearted. Or the weak-lung-ed. It makes you feel so alive and fatigued all at the same time. Certainly great for long walks.

I chanced upon SlowEurope searching for a Dordogne house again and I'm glad I came here, with what certainly seems like a lovely group of genuine people. Reading this makes me long to be back in the crystal blue sunshine of the Dordogne!
