My Tablet Died

Upon my return from Bath, it never recharged. It's deader than dead. Just a complete blank. The only thing I can think of is that a bit of bottled water dripped in my purse where I was carrying the tablet. But I could see no sign of water on it and it's wrapped in a plastic case. Good thing I had just finished the Ann Cleeves mystery.
I had decided to make the tablet my only computer/kindle etc for Rome and leave the laptop behind. Sheesh. Now I have to take the larger computer and nothing to read.

One problem solved. I went into the Oxfam Bookshop today. Panda was right, Oxfam has a separate bookstore so the regular ones don't take books.

It had quite a nice selection. One of my purchases is a classic travelogue by Patrick Leigh Fermor. It's part of his account of an epic walk from London to Constantinople he did aged 18 in 1933. I believe it is part of a trilogy. I've certainly heard of his work but sadly can't remember if I've read anything by him. I think I mix him up with Laurie Lee of Cider with Rosie fame. But I think Leigh Fermor is the better writer.
I also bought an older Le Carré novel. I will have to replenish before I leave but at least I have reading material.

Did I say I love the charity shops:) I'm becoming obsessed with them.

I was reading a physical book the other day and actually tapped the page to make it turn! I read 90% of what I read on the Kindle, 9% on the iPad (newspapers, magazines) and 1% physical.

It is always a race to see if your electronic device dies or if you just abandon it for the latest version. Too bad on the timing.

In Hawaii electronic devices do not last as long as on the mainland because of the salty air. Things in a house rust fast too. Maybe England with its amazing levels of dampness does things to electronics too. None of mine have broken, except a nice little camera that was working until I passed it on to a friend, having bought the newer version for myself, and then it just stopped working.
