Off the beaten path in Languedoc?

@Anne, Lagrasse is very pretty! It's a great place to use as a base. I'd say most of the "hikes" are fairly easy, though Lastours will be too much for your mom's knees. Walking around Minerve is totally doable, and Lagrasse had a nice walk that goes down the river and around paths outside town.

Thanks Valerie, this is helpful. We do like to explore on foot, so will check out some of the trails. The apartment we rented in Lagrasse is in a building along the river - certainly looks pretty in the photos (and on google street view - I'm addicted to that feature!)

A market could be perfect, thanks Veronica! We arrive on a Saturday, so will try to get there in time to pick up some fresh goodies to have on hand.

You'll also want to schedule a trip to the covered market in Narbonne -- one of the best in southern France in my admittedly biased opinion. Open every day. Lunch chez Bébelle is essential. It also has a Spanish tapas bar with the best ham in the world (bellota). Afterwards stroll around the very pretty centre of Narbonne and be sure to visit the cathedral and the archaeological museum.

I think I need to schedule another entire trip, period! :) What a wealth of sights and experiences to discover in this area. Narbonne sounds fabulous. My mouth is already watering for that ham!
