Villa Cipriani from Summer in Italy
2bed/2bath

Villa Cipriani is in the center of Positano near the church. To reach the villa, from Piazza Mulini you walk 5 mins down the pedestrian street (crowded with tourists in high season, lined with shops - art shops, clothing shops, hotels, a good small grocery) to the church. There you turn left towards the Villa La Tartana hotel and then go up stairs to the villa.

The villa sits on the hillside below Le Sirenuse (well known, expensive hotel) and beside Hotel Palazzo Murat (you see their swimming pool and gardens from the side windows). It feels like a house on its own, but it is the top floor of a building. From the pedestrian street you walk 52 steps up to the terrance and entrance to the villa. There are a few steps up from the terrace into the house and inside is all on one level.

The living room, dining room and kitchen are one room and large enough, but not that large. The terrace gives you an extra dining area and sitting area. The bedrooms are spacious and quiet. Each has a small balcony. The apartment gets good light. The view from the terrace is of the side and back of the church, up the hill of Positano and down to the beach. It is not as dramatic of a view as you get from villas further up the hill, but the location makes up for that.

It is a short walk down to the beach area with restaurants, cafes and the ferry dock. 5 minutes walk up the crowded pedestrian street and you are at Piazza Mulini where you get the local buses around town, to Montepertuso and Nocelle and to Praiano. We used these buses to get to the hiking trails. You can take the local bus to the coast road (or walk about 15 mins) to get the SITA bus to Amalfi or Sorrento.

We did a lot of hiking in the hills above Positano using the Cicerone Guide for Walking on the Amalfi Coast. The trails are excellent and the guide gives detailed directions.

We used Positano Car Service, near Piazza Mulini, to take us to Bomerano to do the Path of the Gods hike and to return us to the airport. They are very good. We hired a porter to take our luggage for us when we left - next time we will hire one on arrival too.

Read my trip report for more information about the hiking in this area.

I would stay in this villa again. We were there at the end of the season and did not use the terrace much because we were out all day and by the time we returned "home" it was getting dark and colder. In the summer you could spend the evening out there. I liked being close to the center of town. The last time we were further up the hill, near the coast road, and I liked that area too, but you had to walk down the stairs to the center of town for restaurants.

Note that you must walk on a lot of stairs in Positano. The local bus helps, but you always end up walking on stairs at some point. The town is built into a steep hillside. It takes 25 minutes to walk from the beach up to the coast road at Bar Internationale.
