Siena restaurants

We have not been in Siena since 2005 (yikes). We are planning a daytrip there in early May. Anyone have a current favorite restaurant, or two? I know we will be there for lunch, not sure if we will stay late enough for dinner.

No restaurant recommendations ( the place we ate the last time was DREADFUL) but do pop into our favourite cafe - Nannini. Great pastries and coffee!

Have you been to monteriggioni? It is north of Sienna. Amazing wee village with a great restaurant within the walls. Just outside of the walled town (right at the I ramp for the highway) is one of our favourite restaurants in the area - Bar Dell'Orso. We stop by whenever we are in the area. I think we were directed there back in 2005 by a slow travel poster. We have been back three times since then.

We had a really nice lunch last year (oops, in 2012) at Papei, a trattoria in the Piazza del Mercato -- a great setting and delightful service. I discovered it doing research on Chowhound, where several people who know Siena well recommended it.

Our first meal there in Siena, with our daughter, was at lunch, so perhaps they still serve at that time. Do not know why I had forgotten about it.
