This is for any map lovers out there.
As many know, any projection of the globe onto two dimensions has trade-offs in accuracy. There have been many types of map projections created over hundreds of years, and now a team of researchers has invented a new one. It is the most accurate representation of the globe on a piece of paper, although hard to say that it is very convenient and that it will replace the conventional ones. It is basically two halves, cut along the equator, and "squished" from the poles. The outcome is a two-sided disk.
An interesting read about this here, in Scientific American.
