Help Needed Tree Identification

In our recent travels around Salamanca we saw 100s and 100a of trees like pictured below.
Can anyone enlighten me on the type of tree this is. I guessed cork, but that was truly a guess.

I’m a local (for four years now), and, yes, they are cork trees. If you see them up close, you will notice some in which the bark has been stripped. The stripped ones will have a year painted on them. That’s the way they know how long it’s been since the cork has been harvested.

If you have an opportunity to see the ‘harvest’, it’s fascinating how quickly each tree is harvested.
