Where to stay in Alicante or Malaga?

My friends and I want to go to either Alicante or Malaga. We will be going in early Oct. We want somewhere close to good nightlife with lots of bars and restaurants and preferably not too far a walk from a beach.

What area of Alicante or Malaga would you recommend we stay?

Honestly, I don't know Alicante. But Malaga is amazing and has a great nightlife. You won't regret it.

In October the temperature should be perfect in Malaga!!
