Advice for the Périgord Vert

Pauline

Forums Admin
We are doing our usual trip to Switzerland in September, driving from the UK and spending 3 weeks in Lenk. It is a relaxing time for us, just doing some easy hiking.

We have added on a week in the Perigord Vert. Years ago we spent a couple of weeks in the Dordogne, in the Perigord Noir, and have always meant to return.

I rented a cottage outside Brantome. This looks like a pretty area with some hiking.

Any advice? It will be the first week of October.

Ciao Pauline.
Brantome is indeed a very pretty village, with othr pretty villages around it like Aubeterre sur dronne, Villebois -lavette, Bourdeille, which makes it a good base. All very nice visits.
We ate in a marvelous farm inn (open only Friday and Saturday lunch). The food was marvelous and was served at the charming buccolic terrace, but I hesitate to resecommend to you. Just about all the farm inns (fermes-auberges) in Dordogne have foie gras as their specialty, and when it's not foie gras, it's potato cooked in goose fat or duck fat. I know you are a vegetarian (but just writing about the goose-fat potato makes me want to take off all my clothes and roll on top of their table). But in recent years, restaurants in France have become much more vegetarian-friendly. The restaurant is small and and one must reserve. Perhaps you can ask if you have vegetarian alternatives.

Thanks! I’m pleased to find out about nearby villages. I don’t think we will be eating in restaurants much but I did find an Indian restaurant in Brantome. The last time we were in France in October we were in Provence and the “cepes” were in season. Hopefully they will be here too.
