Amsterdam?

Hello everyone!

I would like to visit Amsterdam, does anybody knows where its better to stay?
Prices?
Places to visit?
Does anybody have such experience?

I have been to Amsterdam a few times. We stayed in hotels on the canals in the central area.

Amsterdam is a great city. Very lively. You can spend days just walking along the streets and enjoying the canals, the buildings and the people. The Van Gogh museum is very good. And the other main tourist attraction, the Anne Frank house is upsetting but interesting to see.

On one trip we took the train to the coast.

I was in Amsterdam in April, and stayed at a hotel that was booked by a friend's travel agent:
City Hotel

It was not on a canal, which I think would have been a better location, but it was fine. Near enough to Central Station to walk ... and near enough to Dam Square, if that is of interest.

In addition to the Van Gogh Museum, we made advance reservations for the Stedelijk (contemporary art), and the Rijksmuseum, so we would not have to stand in long lines.

As Pauline says, just walking around the canals was great... beautiful houses, nice little shops and cafes everywhere.

Enjoy.
