The Guardian (UK) - England's top 10 trees shortlisted for 'tree of the year', by Adam Vaughan 27 October 2014
A tree where Robin Hood hid and Isaac Newton’s apple tree are among candidates picked by the Woodland Trust for England’s first tree of the year, to be voted by the public

This article is worth a look to see the photos of the 10 trees on the shortlist. My favorite - "The Ankerwycke yew near Runnymede, Windsor. This 2,000 year old tree, witnessed signing of the Magna Carta in 1215."

Those trees are amazing!

One of the most beautiful trees I ever saw was in Israel, of all places - a pistachio tree in the Upper Galilee- and huge.

We visited Newton's tree at Woolsthorpe Manor (National Trust) last year and did find it very poignant - the house is small and preserved in the rustic style of his youth. Worth a very small diversion off the A1, if taking the much nicer alternative to the M1 South-North route .
