Car Rental Info Please

Looking at the AutoEurope site for rental cars is always time-consuming, and for our upcoming trip I'll need to book for both Italy AND England. I think England will be cheaper, but we'll see. I usually check both the US and the Canadian AE sites because very often the Canadian site has better rates for the zero deductible option.

I know that for Italy it's always more expensive, and sometimes not possible to rent an automatic, but does the same hold true for England? I haven't asked Art, but it seems to me that driving on the left - especially when making turns! - will be challenging enough, so maybe it's worth it to have an automatic? Or am I just being overly cautious? Our only other experience driving on the left was in Scotland many years ago and there are parts of that trip that I'd just as soon forget - all related to driving.

Get an automatic. We still do, even in France and Italy. Our car in England is automatic.

You may not find zero deductible in England, but some US credit cards offer full coverage for Europe rental cars.

We always rent manual transmission cars in France and Italy (enjoy driving with the stick shift), but it's one more complexity in England. We rent automatic transmission vehicles in England. It would be worth spending a little more.
