As any Italiophile knows, Pocket Coffee is not for sale in the hot summer weather. We purchased a couple of boxes on our April trip to Sicily, but I knew we would not find them on our June trip, especially after the mini-heat wave. So I was surprised to see the very Pocket Coffee looking box, from Ferroro, in the Autogrill a few days ago. They are called "Espresso To Go".
The box has three plastic containers that look like individual pocket coffees but larger. A straw is glued to each container, like those juice boxes for kids. You stick the straw into the container and drink a coffe-chocolate, and mostly sugar, liquid. Voila, pocket coffee that doesn't melt in the heat.
Verdict? Yuck. No crunch of chocolate and hit of coffee. Just a short sugary milkshakey thing.
