Flying Within Europe

We have several intra-European flights this summer: Dublin-Manchester, London-Munich and Munich-Rome. Because we'll have a fair amount of luggage our flights are on British Airways and Lufthansa - with great care making sure these are with the main carrier, NOT a subsidiary! My question is: are there any liquids restrictions for these flights like there are in the U.S.? Anything else I need to be aware of? thanks in advance!

Hi ArtnBarb
This very topic (liquid restrictions for hold luggage) recently came up on the travel sub-forum of a wine site I post on.

Both Lufthansa and BA policies were discussed, both having a 5L limit on spirits, but no limit on wines etc.

https://www.wineberserkers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=149469

The thread arose from Air France (perhaps in error) applying that 5L limit to wines, to one rather upset traveller.

The ban on liquids over 10cl in the cabin remains in place, excepting anything bought inside the security checks.

Regards
Ian

My main concern was for our carry-on luggage - I don't expect to have any wine or olive oil like I would coming from Italy. Even tho we're flying on major carriers, we're still going to try to severely limit our luggage. If I don't have to worry about shampoo or other liquids in our carry-ons, that would be a bonus, but it looks like the 10cl limit is about the same as the U.S. Thanks Ian!

Yes that 10cl limit is rigorously enforced.

One reason I use the solid shampoo bars sold by Lush (no connections etc.)

You can buy plastic bottles now, the right size for carryon, that come in a plastic pouch, so you can have them all in one place for taking out for security.

Solid shampoo is a good idea! You can get solid shaving soap too.

Flying to Europe from the US, I've never had a problem with solid deodorant being outside the ziplock bag when going through security. But, I've had European security folks tell me it had to go into the ziplock. I was surprised...this was probably two years ago when leaving either Heathrow or CDG (can't remember). For that reason, I've stopped trying to carry bars of soap.

I carry a bar of Dove soap in my carry-on on all my flights...have never had a problem...domestic or international. I am surprised about the solid deordorant. I guess you can never tell.
