Transportation France to ban some domestic flights where train available

France to ban some domestic flights where train available, if train ride is under 2.5 hours.

This will not affect people flying into CDG and transferring to short flights. It bans flights where you are not transferring. Flights from the Orly airport to Bordeaux, Nantes and Lyon are banned because you can do those journeys in under 2.5 hours by train.

From the article: French MPs have voted to suspend domestic airline flights on routes that can be travelled by direct train in less than two and a half hours, as part of a series of climate and environmental measures. It will mean the end of short internal flights from Orly airport, south of Paris, to Nantes and Bordeaux among others, though connecting flights through Charles de Gaulle/Roissy airport, north of the French capital, will continue.

I read the item, interesting. It will be remarkable if gov'ts will be able to use the special situation that has been created by the pandemic, in order to make changes that will be good for the environment. Banning flights of a certain kind is better than raising their prices - although an environmental tax on flights specifically used to fund more environmental measures would be OK imo.
I wonder if this decree in France also applies to private jets/flights. Not fair if not.
