French Government going after booking websites...

Heard on the news that our Minister of Industrial Renewal (don't ask) is going after websites like booking.com and expedia which force hotels to guarantee that they won't offer cheaper rates directly to clients than they do via the booking websites. The Minister, Arnaud Montebourg, believes this is anti-competitive and detrimental to both the hotels and customers.

Way back when, we gave one of these sites, venere.com, a try but found it to be more hassle than it was worth. I also didn't like the fact that I had no direct contact with guests before they booked. Lead to one or two little misunderstandings - but that'll be a whole other chapter in my book.

Venere was bought out and is part of a bigger company now. Same with booking.com I think. I do like the reviews on booking.com and have been using them for the hotels we stay in. I always email the hotel/B&B after booking online to make contact, but I understand why you would not use them Kevin.
