They are right about the UK. Very high winds and heavy rain here in Dorset.

Heat dome over the southern US, Phoenix with record temperatures, flooding in Vermont and New York, wildfires in northern Quebec with smoke affecting Canada and the US - plus flooding in India I think. What a summer!

As one who has always worked outdoors, I find it strange that until now no one has yet produced a high-tech and relatively inexpensive "self-cooling" garment, especially with the ongoing miniaturization of electric components that has been achieved. I suppose that these heat waves and the accompanying economic and health losses that they cause will hasten the development of these types of clothing.

It turns out that there is a company manufacturing air-conditioned clothing for hot outdoor and/or humid indoor environments, and that in Japan they are quite in use. Not exactly cheap though - about $250 for a long sleeve shirt.

Meanwhile, it is pretty hot in most parts of the US. We've only had above average temperatures in the Northeast, but the South and West are frying. Along with that some areas have experienced record rainfall. Parts of the state of Vermont had 1000 year floods. Significant damage to property and roads.
