PASSES

It appears to me that if one is a senior and interested primarily in the cultural attractions the passes in both Lisbon and Madrid are not a bargain. Anybody disagree?

Which passes?

If you are looking at senior rates for museums, it may be that only EU citizens get these. At one time in Italy this was the case. Then they stopped offering senior discounts.

Both Spain & Portugal still have senior passes. The point is that the passes, Lisboa Pass and Madrid Pass, do not appear to be a value to me. Unlike Paris, these passes give discounts on some sites . has anybody dealt withthis?

Hi Arthur:
If by passes you mean ones like "Madrid Pass", we've looked at them but never used them. From my point of view the only advantage is "priority entrance". Since you'll be visiting in November, that will not be a problem. I think they are geared to the "If it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium" tourist.
Pauline is correct; more and more reduced admissions for pensioners are available to only EU residents. It is still worth a try; sometimes we have been lucky.
We have found discounts on fares on the transit systems apply in some places.
On the topic of discounts, we registered on Groupon for Spain and have used some of the deals offered there, mostly for restaurants.
