Travel Insurance for Italy

Sorry to bother you, but I have a question regarding insurance as well.
I never bought trip insurance before so googled these days and found out that i.e. www.worldnomads.com is much more expensive than travelinsurance.easyjet.com and easyjet has 50% bigger medical cover... Do you maybe know why?
Is it necessary to have such a big medical cover or is it better to choose a coverage by myself like here: https://www.evasan.com/travel-insurance-online

Sorry about all the questions.

Travel insurance is such an individual decision... you have to decide what is most comfortable for you, (and necessary
in an emergency), depending on your coverage at home or on your credit card.
I have started always insuring my travel, because I don't think I could afford to lose airfare/deposits on rentals/other prepaids if something happens.

Here is a good website to compare various policies, and levels of insurance:

www.insuremytrip.com

PS: others can tell you more accurately, but there is good and usually free medical coverage in Italy, not just for Italians
so med coverage could be for big emergencies...

Good luck,
Karen

Thanks so much. As regards free medical coverage, I did not know about it.
Also, will have a look at the site.

Thanks again.

In all our years traveling to Italy from the US we never purchased travel insurance. The type of health care insurance that we had covered us when traveling, so we did not need it for that. We never had a situation where we would have used travel insurance - we were lucky.

In the UK you can purchase travel insurance by the year and it is not expensive, so we have travel insurance now, but have never used it.

Most European countries offer free emergency health care (but a regular doctor visit is not covered). Some countries now want to collect payment from your health insurance provider. I don't know what the situation is currently in Italy.

It is a personal decision and also affected by how you have booked your trip. Are you staying in hotels that can be canceled without penalty? Or have you pre-paid a vacation rental? Can you cancel your airline ticket and get a refund, or rebook within a year? Or is the flight non-refundable? If you are using miles for your flight, these are usually easy to cancel with little or no penalty. You have to figure out what you would lose if you canceled your trip and see if it is enough to make the insurance worth while. Also carefully read the conditions you can cancel a trip for - is it only for illness of the people traveling?
