What Happened to Expats in Italy?

Pauline

Forums Admin
What happened to Cristina's Expats in Italy site? I heard she had taken it down, but I thought I then heard it was back. When I go there, I get a link to a Google Group which I joined without realizing I had joined and could not figure out what it was.

@Cristina ?

Hey Pauline, here I am! So we got hacked back in 2014. It would have cost too much to get it running again so I just let it go (I know, NEVER GIVE UP DOMAIN NAMES!!!). Well someone bought the domain at auction supposedly. Then a few months back he sent an email to all of the old members saying that the site was back but he only has Wayback machine to my old pages. I am trying to see what I can do, possbly putting it all on FB.

ExpatsInItaly was a wonderful resource for me as I planned our move to Italy and settled in to life here. Lots of great advice from people who had already made the move. Many thanks to Cristina for hosting it as long she did!

There is a Facebook group called Italian Reflections that operates as a closed group for full or part time ex-pat Italian residents.

I looked on Facebook for Italian Reflections but couldn't find anything by that name. Is it still there?

Italian Reflections is a facebook group. Some good info but I left a while back over infighting and bad info. Expats in Italy was a reference point for those thinking about moving over or already living here. Detailed step by step guides. Big difference.

There is a mix of info on Italian Reflections. If you sort through the personal stuff, there is a lot of discussion exchanged on dealing with passports, visas, residency permits, drivers licenses, medical care, dealing with the commune, etc. One thing my wife and I gained from it was stepping away from plans to extend our residency. We had a taste of the issues involved when renovating her family home over a three year period, but reading the seemingly unending issues of those who do live there full time made us rethink. We are fortunate that she has relatives in the village who are willing to act as middle men between us and the contractors and vendors that we deal with.

Do you still have all that content? You could turn it into a website using Wordpress. But I guess that kind of info changes frequently and would have to be updated.
