I think it's Ganagobie Abbey. I went back to my photos (not digital!) of a trip we took through Digne and Sisteron up to Gap and then the French Alps and found it.

Correct! I have a Day Trip for it. We went there twice - once when it was closed and later in the week when it was open. We heard the monks chanting. A beautiful spot along the River Durance, east of Forcalquier where we were staying. There is a small Roman bridge on the road below the abbey.

From the day trip notes: Ganagobie Abbey (Abbaye Notre-Dame de Ganagobie) is Benedictine monastery sitting on a hill above the Durance valley. This hilltop has been occupied since prehistoric times (Bronze Age, 2000BC). You can visit the small Romanesque church, built in the 12th century but the rest of the Abbey is private. The entrance to the church has detailed religious carvings. Inside the church is a two-color mosaic floor from 1124. There are good views from here and walking trails.

Over to you @Ann .

You're right, JustTravel. We went there in 2013 when we were staying near Villefranche-de-Rouergue. To you now!
