United Kingdom - TV SHOWS & MOVIES

>>Italy unpacked<<

We love Italy Unpacked and its companion series Sicily Unpacked....great rapport between Giorgio Locatelli and Andrew Graham Dixon and interesting and off-the-beaten path destinations.

Seasons 2 and 3 are now available on the BBC iPlayer although they will start to disappear again very soon.

Enjoy......

Catastrophe is back for its third season.....loved the first episode but found the second one a bit trying...only intermittently amusing. The two principals are really impossible...:)

We just watched a BBC show, The Replacement, a psychological thriller, starring the woman from Line of Duty. The acting was really good and the story interesting, but the ending was lacking. It was only 3 episodes.

I did watch The Replacement.....I found it a bit formulaic but I still watched the whole thing, :(

I have been racing through a couple of Danish series while exercising on the elliptical and treadmill. Just finished Season 2 of The Legacy--not bad, finished the first season of Follow the Money--a story of corruption in the banking industry and am now watching the second season which is currently on the BBC.

A new series of Hinterland, the Welsh detective series (dare one call it Taffy Noir?) is about to reach its climax here in the UK:

And I'm very taken with Morocco to Timbuktu - a slow-ish journey along the old trade routes, with an expert, knowledgeable presenter (but a journey I'm happy to make on my sofa):

Just downloaded Seasons 3 of The Legacy and Spin.....not sure when I will get to them.

We just finished binging Season 3 of Broadchurch....which was excellent and surprising, since we thought Season 2 was a mess (despite the always welcome presence of Charlotte Rampling.) I see that Season 3 starts on BBC America at the end of June.

I agree season 2 was a mess, but I thought season 3 was a bit preachy by the end. Still - fabulous scenery! Most of it was shot within a few miles of us.

I agree about the preachiness....but we thought the acting and dialogue was outstanding--especially the leads but also Sarah Parish (I remember her from The Vice with Ken Stott...that was one tough series) and Lenny Henry.

I just started watching a Handmaid's Tale. It's based on the book by Margret Atwood and it's stunning. Such a high budget production with stellar acting. I highly recommend it

The Vice was a great series. I don't remember Sarah Parish from it.

Loch Ness is a new series that just started running on Acorn TV in the US. I looked it up online and was surprised to see that it apparently also just started running on ITV in the UK. Usually Acorn gets their shows some time later than the original British airing. I think in the UK it's called The Loch.

Here's the description from Acorn:
The beautiful, haunting shores of Scotland's most iconic loch is the stunning backdrop for the new six-part crime drama. In a community nourished and sustained by myth and bordered by untamed nature, the search for a serial killer becomes a matter of life and death for local detective Annie Redford (Laura Fraser, Breaking Bad). Within the tightly knit town, a sense of horror begins to dawn as the villagers realize that there is more than one kind of monster in their midst

We thought the first episode (the only one available so far) was very good. Here's a link to a review in the NY Times.
